From Microscopes to Monuments – The Study of the Human Past is Limited Only by your Own Imagination.

Archaeology at Chester allows you to study the human past from the hunter-gatherers of Ice Age Europe to the inhabitants of modern cities. This rich and varied course incorporates a range of theoretical and practical approaches. The Chester degrees in Archaeology also provide you with an extensive array of specific and transferrable skills. You can do field survey and excavation, undertake scientific analysis, organise and present your findings, tackle critical thinking and problem solving.

We are a friendly and vibrant academic department and supported by award-winning staff with expertise in prehistoric and historic research and heritage studies. You’ll access specialist resources and equipment, including archaeological imaging facilities, microscopes and a multi-purpose archaeological science lab. You’ll be based at the heart of a unique historic city, but modules explore via fieldtrips the landscapes, sites, monuments and museums of North West England and Wales. Fieldwork opportunities include a distinctive term-time training excavation and the chance to work with staff on research projects across Britain.

You will learn to think big and make the past your future.
